2022 vs 2023
Here's the summary:
- Last year was more emo
- This year is more punk
The biggest difference between this years festival and last years is of course, the line-up. Last years line-up was more emo-driven, featuring bands like My Chemical Romance, Paramore, I Prevail, Taking Back Sunday, and so many other emo legends. Needless to say, Vegas most definetely suffered from a black eye-liner shortage last October. This year, it's all about punk. With Green Day and Blink-182 headlining, When We Were Young 2023 seems like it will be more of a once-over of the beginnings of the 2000's pop-punk scene.

Here is a map of the 2022 festival. You can see that they had the two sets of main stages, the Black and Pink stages and the Stripe and Checker stages. There was also a smaller stage tucked in the corner called the Neon Tent. The layout of the fairgrounds and the stands was the biggest complaint from last year. Here are some things that I'd hope they fix at this years show:
- More Merch Stands!There were 80,000 people at each of these shows and only 2 merch stands. We waited in line for an hour and a half to get our shirts, and by the time we got there nearly everything was sold out. Depsite this, however, the line brought us right in front of the Checker stage, so we at least had the show to enjoy while we waited.
- Figure out the food stands:Getting food at this festival simply was not possible. there was no organized lines, more so mobs of people trying to order or pick up an order. We gave up after half an hour of waiting. Getting a drink was surprisingly easy, however.
- You will get your steps in:This one they can't do anything about but more of a warning: the festival grounds are MASSIVE. The map may make it look tiny, but don't be fooled. At a brisk pace it will take you 10 minutes to get from the Stripe stage to the Pink stage. Wear comfy shoes (Not to worry, they make Vans with cushion soles now). In short, be prepared for the amount of walking you will be doing at this place.
2022 Set Times
This is a time table of all the set-times for each artist. The column headers are the names of the stages (see the map above). While it is impossible to predict what the set-times will be for this years festival, you can get an idea of who might be where based on how they grouped them last year. This is all speculation, but here are some predictions I have as far as how it will be done this year:
- There will again be 2 main stages for the headliners and co-headliners. Last year these were the Black and Pink stages. What will they be called this year? Your guess is as good as any.
- There will be a small stage tucked somewhere hidden on the fairgrounds. Last year, this was the Neon Tent. The artists here will have smaller followings than the others. Bowling for Soup, Zebrahead, Gym Class Heroes, and Beach Bunny will almost definetely be playing this stage.
- The other two stages stage will be elsewhere on the festival grounds. Again, same as last year. This is where the majority of the bands will be, similar to the Stripes and Checkers stages last year. Yellowcard and Simple Plan will be playing these stages just before Greeen Day and Blink-182 perform. There will also be one or two small bands playing these stages as they go on.
